Tipton County Master Gardeners Organizational ByLaws
Hours needed for Certified Master Gardeners are as follows:
7 Administrative (Taking care of the Business of Master Gardeners, Example: Meetings, Help in the office, Newsletters, Articles, etc.)
2 Community Hours (Taking part in the community by working display gardens, etc.)
4 Teaching (Giving Lectures, giving programs, participate in question and answer sessions, writing articles that are published or distributed, manning an informational booth, etc.)
12 Sanctioned Projects (Participating in any Master Gardener Sanctioned Project. There are many. Festivals, Earth Day, TC Museum, Our own Expo, etc. There is a book at the Ext. Office available with these Projects listed) Extra Sanctioned Hours can be applied to Community Hours.
8 Continuing Education Units (These hours can be made by attending the speaker portion of our meetings, attend a gardening event with legitimate speakers, or any other program where there is education for a garden)
The Tipton County Master Gardener year is September 1 - August 31. Hours must be completed, turned in and approved by August 31 in order to maintain your certification.
Other Info:
Yearly Dues are payable at the September meeting and are currently $20 per year.
Meetings are the first Thursday of each month with Holiday and special event exceptions from 6pm until 7:30pm or 8:00pm. They are held at the Extension Office at 111 Washington in Covington. Check the Calendar of Events for meeting dates and times updates.
Weather Cancellation: If the Tipton County Schools were closed due to weather, the day of the meeting, then our monthly meeting will be cancelled.
Intern Info:
Classes begin in January and generally run through the first part of April. At this time, they are every Tuesday night at the Extension Office at 111 Washington in Covington at 6:00pm until 9:00pm. The cost of print materials, teachers, etc is included in your enrollment fee. A student can only miss 2 classes. See Booker if you are having a difficulty. We want to help you work it out.
Weather Cancellation: If the Tipton County Schools were closed due to weather, the day of the class, then our class will be canceled.
Hours outside of the classroom that need to be completed in order to graduate are:
10 Extension Office/Administrative Hours (See Booker T. Leigh for opportunities)
30 Community Hours (Participation in any community or sanctioned gardening event. If it is not a TCMG event, please check with Booker or our current president prior to double check it falls within the hours guidelines)

These seem like a lot of hours, but they will come easily and the Gardeners are here to help you!
